Rafael Carazo Salas 2019 Hunter Cell Biology Meeting

Rafael Carazo Salas

Rafael Carazo Salas is Professor and Chair in Biomedical Sciences at the School of Cellular and Molecular Medicine in the University of Bristol, UK. Trained in Montreal, CERN, Cambridge and Paris in physics, mathematics and biology, he did a PhD (2001) with Eric Karsenti and Iain Mattaj at EMBL Heidelberg and postdoc (2002-2007) with Paul Nurse in CRUK London and Rockefeller University in New York. In 2008 he became labhead in ETH Zurich, continuing from 2010 at the University of Cambridge before moving to Bristol in 2016. Rafael has been a key figure in the mitosis, cytoskeleton, cell polarity and cell morphogenesis fields, and leader in the field of microscopy phenomics. Since 2015, his group began pioneering quantitative (high-throughput/high-content) microscopy cellular phenotyping strategies and Big Data approaches to investigate how pluripotency and differentiation decisions are controlled at the cell biological and single-cell level, using human stem cells as experimental paradigm.
