Merja Joensuu

Dr Joensuu is an Academy of Finland Postdoctoral Fellow at the Single Molecule Neuroscience Laboratory at the Clem Jones Centre for Ageing Dementia, Queensland Brain institute, the University of Queensland. She obtained her PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Helsinki, Finland in 2014. Merja’s current research focuses on the molecular mechanism of presynaptic membrane trafficking and neurotransmission, axonal retrograde transport, and development of super-resolution microscopy techniques. She is a recipient of ARC DECRA Fellowship commencing in 2019, aiming to reveal a novel role for saturated fatty acids in learning and memory.
