Ben Hogan
Professor Ben Hogan is Associate Director of Laboratory Research at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and is also Professor in the Department of Anatomy and Physiology at the University of Melbourne, Australia. Ben completed his PhD in blood development at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research in 2005 before a postdoc at the Hubrecht Institute for Stem Cell and Developmental Biology from 2006 – 2009 in the Netherlands, where he took part in the first large scale forward genetic discovery screen focussed on lymphatic vessel development.
Ben's work has uncovered new components and effectors of the VEGFC-VEGFR3 signalling pathway that control lymphangiogenesis in zebrafish development and in lymphatic disease in humans. His lab currently uses genetic screens in zebrafish, live imaging of vasculature, mouse genetics, functional and single cell genomic approaches to explore lymphatic development, regeneration and the blood brain barrier. In 2024, he became the first Australian to receive the Judah Folkman award from the North American Vascular Biology Organisation. Ben is a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC, Australia) Investigator and Co-Director of the NHMRC Centre for Research Excellence in Lymphoedema and Lymphatic Regeneration.
